Today I didn't exactly work from my home. Actually, I didn't do much work at all. I was the designated driver for my mom today. Ok, not designated driver as in "Let momma get sloshed to the gills on Tequila Sunrises , drive her home & pour her into bed" designated driver. My mom had cataract surgery today, so I got to play chauffer- in her new car!

So, I packed up my laptop, my leads, flyers that still needed to be cut-out, business cards, and a self-improvement book. Mom had to be in the city by 7:15. I had to go to her house to meet her(about 20 minutes or so away) and then we went to the surgery center (about 20 minutes or so away) so you can imagine what time I left my house this morning. They have you come into the surgery center like 2 hours ahead of time.

So we get to the center and mom checks in and we wait for 1/2 hour or so. I pull out the old laptop and Ta-Da! Wait! No wireless connection???? Pooh!

It actually turned out to be a blessing as I got a bunch of files cleaned out, cleaned out "my pictures", and also the emails in my outlook express (personal email).

They called mom in to get her in a gown and all that jazz. I continue with my computer stuff until they call me to come sit with her and wait for another 1/2 hour or more. The doc comes in and talks with us a little. I ask how long the actual surgery is. He says about 20 minutes. He leaves.

Someone else comes in. Questions. "What is your date of birth?" "What eye will the doctor be working on today?" Even though there is a lavendar X or something over her right eye so they don't goof. Just double checking.

I am not criticizing the fact that they mark you. I was quite delighted when I had surgery 3 yrs ago that someone thought to put a big old X over my left kidney. I am a pretty mellow person, but....take out the wrong kidney and I might fuss just a little.

Anyway, someone else comes in, Questions. "What is your date of birth?" "What eye will the doctor be working on today?" Even though there is a lavendar X or something over her right eye so they don't goof. Just double checking.

Finally, they wisk her away. I take a few minutes to run down to the cafe for a bite to eat. I rush back with in 25 minutes. And wait...and wait....I figure no ones come out with any bad news, so it must be all good news.

Finally the doc came out. I walk over to him and he says, "Why don't we step in here." An office. No big deal.

He says, "We had a little problem." Then all kinds of things run through my head like, "What happened? What have you done to my mother?"

It turns out he had a hard time getting the cataract out or something. He put in the lense and for some reason it wasn't working (already forgot how he explained it), so they used the old-fashioned kind of lense. He had to cut a little speck more of the eye to fit the other one in. So now, my momma looks like a one - eyed monster!

Ok, all joking aside my momma is doing fine- just talked to her a short while ago. Tomorrow, I take her back for a check-up. In 3 weeks, she has the other one done.

So me and my one-eyed mommy will be spending a bit-o-mommy-daughter-time together. And that's always good.

Side note: The nurse was telling Mom that I should have gotten a connection as they have wireless. I didn't see it on my list of available connections.

So anyway my dear bloggy friend's, if I'm not around for a day or two it's for a good reason! Later!

P.S. Oh yeah, I got to drive that new car home! I didn't think I liked big cars, but that is pretty plush. Lots of bells and whistles. I was scared to touch any buttons :-)

Why I love working at home with AmeriPlan!

Today is my 2nd anniversary working at home with AmeriPlan. I had tried several other business opportunities over the years, none of which seemed to pan out for me. But AmeriPlan's health benefits are a much needed service. No products, no cold calling. I love it!

Right away I saw something that the other companies I had tried didn’t have; Great team support and residual income.

The team I am on, The Prosperity Team (branch of the Freedom at Home Team) is awesome. They conduct weekly team calls and there is always a leader available if I need to speak with someone one on one.

When I started with AmeriPlan, I worked part-time at a village library. I loved my job at the library, but I had a burning desire to be here with my kids. After being in AmeriPlan for about 9 mos. I quit my job, wanting to do AmeriPlan full time.

Shortly after that, my 90 yr. Grandmother suffered a major heart attack. She resided in Pennsylvania, about 3 hours from me. My uncle, who is wheelchair bound resided there also. Gram was bedridden and needed care that my uncle was unable to provide. My sister (who lives in VA & can telecommute) , mom (retired) & I (home biz owner) took turns going to Pennsylvania to care for Gram.

I didn't have to ask my bosses permission, because I am my boss!

My uncle had dial up Internet ,which was acting up at the time. Between that and caring for Gram, I really wasn't working my biz. I did hang flyers around my Grandmother's town when I ran out to do errands. I barely worked for 3- 4 mos. I worked a day here, a day there, mostly when I went home.

Somehow in that time, I still promoted to Regional Sales Director.

Because I get paid on everyone I enroll every month, as long as they stay on the plan, I still collected a paycheck each month on business I had already done. Even when I didn't enroll anyone new that month.

Gram passed away March 31st. About a month or so later, I enrolled a couple of people from my Grandmothers town into a health plan ( from flyers posted previously!)

Recently, my daughter was having pain in her joints. I have had to take her to many, many doctor appointments in the past few months. She was eventually diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.

I did not have to ask a boss for time off, and again I got paid whether I had new enrollments or not.

I have tried many home business opportunities in the past. None of them paid me when I didn't work. And...

None of them promised me a 6-figure income in 2-4 years!

I personally know people on my team that have achieved that and more.

My mom is in town for a week or so. Since I work at home, I have the time freedom to go to lunch & such when I want. We went to lunch last week, then shopped a little. Mom asked me if I wanted to go to church Sunday. I told her I would and I'd see her Sunday.

Saturday night, she called to remind me and see if my daughter & I were still coming to church the next day. I'll admit I told her I wasn't sure. I had changed my bedroom around Saturday, went through & threw out a bunch of junk. Then , my son & I went out & started shoveling goat poop in the boy's goathouse & yard. I was tired and church was the last thing on my mind.

Sunday I woke up, started doing my ads, contemplating whether to go to church or not. I checked in on my friends on twitter. A guy I'm following, Seedspreader had left this message the night b-4:

Poking the fire, checking the doors, getting ready to settle into bed. Have a good night everyone... go to church tomorrow!

So, I went to church!

What was the title of the service?

Lord, you give the Great Commission.

Ok, it may not mean commisssion as in money, but again I felt it was sort of a "sign" of great things to come.

Anyway, we went for coffe and cake downstairs, then went to brunch.

Got home and a friend stopped over for an hour or two.

All together, a good day of fellowship!

The Pizza Soup wasn't 1/2 bad! I don't think it necessarily tasted like pizza, though. I did add some pepperoni (not listed on ingredients). I couldn't even really taste it.

It pretty much tasted like the zucchini stuff I make in the summer: zucchini, hamburg, sausage, sauce & onions & peppers if desired.

Would I make it again? Yes, but I think I would use medium-hot sausage and more pepperoni. And.... I would be sure I had all the ingredients beforehand!

And that my friends ,is my review of the $32 Pizza Soup!

I had been busy working the home business all day- trying to catch up on blogs, emails & phone calls. My 17 yr old son came home from school. He said he & his friend were going to the store. A light bulb went off in my head!








HE could grab the stuff I needed for Pizza Soup.


I gave him $10.00 and told him I needed milk, pizza sauce, and pepperoni. He comes back with milk and spaghetti sauce and no pepperoni. He said he looked everywhere and there was no pizza sauce or pepperoni. Being a little redneck convenience store, I could believe it. He left and I decided I might as well make goulash or something. I was left without the pizza sauce, the pepperoni and ...hey..wait a minute! No change! If there was any! Will have to ask him when he gets back.



After about 1/2 hr I get thinking about that Pizza Soup - I was really planning on it. It keeps pestering at me until I decide to change out of my jammie bottoms and get dressed. I go to the redneck convenience store a few miles in the other direction. I get pizza sauce, pepperoni, cat food ( forgot earlier) and mozzarella cheese (another item I forgot I needed and was over $4.00!) I decide hell, I could use a beer- so I grab a 6-pack of Budwieser. Then my daughter wants a pack of gum. Totall bill: $22. and some change.

And that's how I my danged Pizza Soup ended up costing me $32.00! It had better be good!

The recipe:

PIZZA SOUP
1 lb. Italian sausage (skin removed)
1/2 c. chopped onion
1/2 c. chopped green pepper
2 tbsp. oregano
1 tsp. garlic powder
30 oz. pizza sauce
2 c. canned tomatoes, diced
1 1/2 qts. water
3 tbsp. beef base
12 pieces French bread
12 slices Mozzarella cheese or shredded Mozzarella cheese

Cook sausage, onion, green pepper, oregano and garlic powder until sausage is brown. Add pizza sauce, tomatoes, water and base.
Simmer 1 hour. Place 1 slice toasted French bread in bottom of soup bowl. Add soup; top with cheese.
Broil 5 to 10 minutes or until cheese is lightly browned. Makes 12 servings.

I finally have a morning when I can catch up from the week. I can focus on my home business for what seems like the 1st time in I don't know how long. How in the world do people who work a J-O-B- function? I mean really, check it out:

Duck, Duck......................that ain't a goose!

I went out to feed the animals this morning and 3 of the ducks were lined up in a window sill. I had to run back to the house and grab the camera. This is why I work at home

And...even though I was whining about being busy this week, if I did didn't work at home and had to work a J-O-B ,I may not be able to be a Girl Scout leader, or watch the grandbaby. So now I'm smiling and being thankful!

Will you be out with friend's and family, whining about how crappy 2008 was ? That's what 98% of the people will be doing. Making resolutions they know they won't keep. It was just announced the other day that another local business is shutting it's doors. Another 300 employee's out of a job. Times are tough, and many people are finding that good jobs are hard to come by. I was flipping through channels on the radio the other day after dropping my son off at his temporary job (which lasted a whole 4 days!) when I heard an interesting piece about what employers don't like in employees. They are all what I consider common sense, but.... The main point is, in this day and age if you hope to keep a job, you had better be the "perfect employee."

You had better be on time and on top of your game. Forget sick kids, school plays and doctors appointments. Being absent is not an option. You must always be dressed to the nines. If the baby pukes on your nice new business jacket, you'd better change. But do it fast - if you're late, that's a strike against you. Most likely your position consists of duties that were once allocated to 2 or 3 other people. And as companies downsize, IF you get to keep your job, the workload will only get heavier. And, there's a good chance that your paycheck will go down, not up. Most likely, the company won't be there until you retire anyway.

So what are the options? Temporary jobs that last anywhere from 1 day- a couple of month's? Work for minimum wage? Most people don't have a plan B.

What is a plan B? An alternative, something that's there, even when the job is yanked out from under you. A Plan B is the reason most people start a home business. They want to be in control of their paycheck. They want the option of giving themselves a raise.

More and more people are looking for a Plan B. The future is uncertain, and people are scared. Isn't it time you took control of your life, so you don't work 40 hours a week for 40 years ( or less, because you got canned?)

.....once you get used to it, it changes! I made that saying up years ago and it never fails to be true! Even working at home, it is almost impossible to settle into any kind of schedule- at least with my family! It seems just when I get into the groove of things, something changes. Of course, I guess all the parties involved should be thankful that I work at home and have the flexibilty to accomodate almost any situation.

For instance, I was giving my son a ride to work everyday. He came back from down south about a year ago and has had a heck of a time finding steady employment (hasn't eveyone?). With so many places folding, there are less places to go to everyday. To top it off, most jobs are through temporary agencies. They promise to hire you after 90 days, but it never happens. He also is without wheels and is having a hard time saving for a car on his low-paying temporary jobs. So, I give him a ride.

The last place my son worked was about 1/2 hr away. Not that bad on a good day- it's a nice ride through the countryside. I actually started looking forward to the drive every morning- after I dropped him off, I had a good 1/2 hour to think and plan my day. Taking him to work became part of my routine. Of course, the snow has arrived, and I did in my head wish that a job a little closer to home would pop up. Well, my son was let go the next day. He did find a job (temporary) about a week later that is only 5-6 minutes from home-yeee-haw! But for that week he didn't work, I couldn't get my bearings together at 1st. I swear i have adult ADD!

My honey, Ron also had his hours change around that time. He goes to work an hour earlier now. Between the two, I was kind of aimless for a few days. Then I found my groove with the new routine. Then, my son finds a new job, so the routine has changed again! Oh well, I love that I can help my loved ones. Where would my son be living in the country with no car, no bus service and looking for a job?

So, I am now establishing a new routine and pray that it doesn't change anytime soon. The 5 minute drive instead of 1/2 hour gives me more time to work on my business, so I can realize my hopes and dreams faster!

Well, must get to work, while I can! :)

Santa giving treats to the dogs

Yesterday me and another broker, Larry set up a table at the Canine Working Companions Event. The organization trains dogs to be used as hearing dogs, service dogs and therapy dogs. We really had a great time talking to the other vendors and some of the people who train the dogs. My 11 year old "came to work" with me. She is great about going around & handing out flyers to people for us. We gave out a lot of information on our benefits programs and work at home. We had a contest giving away a weekend vacation for two as 1st prize, a shopping card for second, and a free Rx card for 3rd.
